abi. Capture Guide
This is the guide shown inside the app, published unchanged. It is generated from the app's own Help text, so when that changes, this page changes with it. It describes what the product does and, deliberately, what it does not.
abi. Capture is a browser extension that records which systems somebody moves between while they work, and how long each step takes, so a process lands on your Clone without anybody having to describe it from memory. It is the third way into the map, after asking a person and reading a document.
What it records, and what it does not
- It records which systems are opened, the order they are opened in, and how long is spent in each
- It does not record what is on the page: no screen contents, no keystrokes, no text, no files
- It records nothing at all while capturing is off. There is no background mode
Capture codes
The extension holds a capture code rather than somebody's login, which is what makes it possible to withdraw.
- A code is scoped to one map. It cannot reach another client's map or the rest of the account
- A code expires, and can be revoked at any time. Revoking stops it immediately
- Create one in the Clone, under Intake → Capture, labelled for whoever or whatever it is for
- Find and revoke one in Settings → Security → abi. Capture codes. Codes are shown masked, because the list is there to switch them off rather than to hand them out
- A lost laptop costs one revoke on one map, not a password rotation
Telling people, which is not optional
Observing how a colleague works is a matter for them, not only for you.
- Tell the person before the code is installed, and tell them what is and is not recorded
- Where you are the employer, worker notification duties may apply. Governance flags this against any agent that acts on or about your own staff
- Captured sessions appear in the Clone's Evidence list, attributed to the code that produced them, so there is a record of what was observed and when
Availability
The extension is not published to the Chrome Web Store yet, so the Capture card in Intake will not offer an install button until it is. Codes can be created now and will work the moment the extension is available.
